About Counselling and Hypnotherapy What is Counselling? Counselling is a process that allows the individual to explore, reflect, challenge and where possible bring about change either within themselves or around the issues that have affected them. Counselling provides a safe non-judgmental environment whereby the client can work on the issues that are causing them concern or upset. It allows the client to come to their own conclusions and to find their own direction in which to move forward and deal with those issues. The counsellor is a facilitator for this process to occur, they do not give advice. The process usually occurs through talking, reflecting and exploring not only the issues, but understanding the clients beliefs, past history and understanding who they really are, occasionally other techniques other than talking are used this could involve play, art work and role play to name a few.

It then allows you to take the time to look/explore those issues from a different perspective. It will allow you to safely challenge and question, not only the issues, but also to reflect and gain a deeper understanding of your self, discover who you really are. What Benefits can be Expected?
Every one who comes to counselling will experience their own unique understanding of how counselling has benefitted them. For many it may be the first time that they have actually felt that they have been heard and understood. It is also possible that they will feel accepted for who they are and that they can be, who they are, at least when they are in the session. As to the depth of the benefits that can only be gauged by the client, but it is also necessary for the client to acknowledge that this process may at times feel very difficult. The reason for this is, it's scary and painful getting in touch with ones true self and inner most feelings, and learning to accept ones self for who they are "warts and all". It involves honesty, trust and eventually acceptance. It can often make one feel worse before they start to feel better. For change to occur it is about understanding what needs to be changed and learning to let go of what does not work anymore and to embrace the future and what could work. |
