Frequently asked questions

How much will it cost me?

The first session is an assessment session, usually lasting 1-1.5 hours and this costs £75.00. This session allows us to meet, for you to ask any questions, for me to explain how I work and to explain how counselling and hypnotherapy process works. This will give us the opportunity to decide whether counselling or hypnotherapy is the right solution to your needs. The cost of the counselling is £50.00 per session. The cost of hypnotherapy session is £50.00 per session. EMDR £75 per 1.5 hour session. The client would be expected to pay for any booked appointments that are either forgotten or cancelled at short notice (less than 24 hours).

How long does a session last and how many sessions am I going to need?

EMDR sessions normally last 1.5 hours, and occasionally longer. Counselling sessions last for 50 minutes and it is usual to meet weekly for subsequent sessions. This may vary with circumstances. As for the number of sessions, I offer open ended counselling and we would review regularly our work together. It is essential for counselling to be effective that the client attends regularly, and turns up on time.

For hypnotherapy, the sessions usually last an hour and occasionally longer and at the initial assessment I would have given you an outline of the number of sessions and what to expect. The client may need to do some practice at home for some kinds of therapeutic interventions.

What about confidentiality?

For therapy to be effective it is necessary that the client trusts the counsellor and to know that whatever is discussed is kept confidential. As a member of the BACP, I abide by their ‘Ethical Principles’ and part of those state that there are limits to the level of confidentiality a counsellor can agree to. It is considered necessary to inform third parties when it is considered that someone is at risk, either to themselves or to others. If it is necessary to break confidentiality, the counsellor would inform the client of the need and would explain to whom they would be disclosing information to and why.
